What are the CAO points?

The point in 2021 were as follows:

Bachelor of Commerce: 476

Bachelor of Commerce (Global Experience): 551

How many contact hours are there per week?

Depending on module selection, students can expect to be in-class approximately 18-20 hours per week. Students are expected to equal this time with individual study, group projects, assignments and class preparation.

Can I transfer from the Bachelor of Commerce to the Bachelor of Commerce (Global Experience)?

The Bachelor of Commerce can be extended from three to four years. We offer students a competitive opportunity based on student performance and merit to enhance their studies, spending one academic year studying abroad or one academic year on work placement or one semester studying abroad along with a one semester work placement. In third year students will study a range of business courses through English at an international partner university in North America, Australia, Asia or Europe, providing students with an invaluable experience and graduating with a BComm (Global Experience) degree. Students will return to NUI Galway to complete their final year.

Do I pay additional fees to my host institution on my study abroad?

No. Students pay their fees to NUI Galway as they do in other years. This is a fantastic opportunity for students, as they benefit from studying at world class institutions, whose fees for full-time students are significantly higher than NUI Galway’s.

What is the difference between the BComm (Global Experience) and the BComm (International)?

There are two key differentiators between these programmes:

1. The BComm (International) does not have a work placement involved as part of the programme.

2. The BComm (Global Experience) does not have a language component. All subjects on the study abroad are taught through English. Students do have the opportunity to study German or Spanish in first year if they wish to do so. However to continue this language element after 1st year, they must apply to transfer into the BComm (International). Modules in Chinese language and culture are offered in final year.

What areas can I specialise in?

Our courses allow you specialise in the following areas:

· Accounting & Performance Measurement

· Economics & Public Policy

· Management of Human Resources

· Marketing Management

· Digital Business & Analytics (Business Information Systems)

Students must complete a modern EU language to be eligible for entry onto our Business programmes.

Are work placements paid?

Every effort is made by our Placement Officer to secure paid work placments. In the 2018/19 academic year, all work placements were paid. However paid placement cannot be guaranteed for all students.

Can I study a language?

Students have the option to study Spanish, German or Gaeilge if they should so wish.

To continue this language after first year, students can apply to transfer into the BComm (International) or BComm (Gaeilge) programme.

Modules in Chinese language and culture are offered in the second year and final year.

What is the Deloitte Global Scholarship?

NUI Galway is pleased to announce that it will be partnering with Deloitte on the University’s new BComm Global Experience course. As part of the partnership, Deloitte will provide funding over five years to support students while studying abroad.

Brendan Jennings, Managing Partner, Deloitte commented: “At Deloitte, we see first-hand, and on a daily basis, the ever-increasing need for international experience and an ability to work across borders. Our clients are operating in a more globally connected way than ever before, and therefore we need to work this way also. We are delighted to support the NUIG Deloitte scholars in gaining this important and valuable experience. We very much believe that it will equip them well in their future business careers.”
